Henry Louis Vivian Derozio was an Indian English poet. He was born on 18th April 1809. His father’s name was Francis Derozio and his mother’s name was Sophie Johnson. He was born at Entally and brought up in Kolkata. He studied at David Drummond’s “Dhurramtallah Acadamy’’ school. Later he started teaching English Literature and History at Hindu college. Soon he became an Assistant editor of ‘The India Gazette’, editor of ‘The Calcutta Gazette’, ‘The East Indian’ and ‘The Bengal Annual’ etc. He wrote many poems in his pass time. A few of his notable poems are ‘To India, My Native land’, ‘The Harp of India’, ‘The Fakir of Jungheera’ etc. He died on 26th December, 1831.
