1. What was the first question that came into the mind of the Tsar? How did the learned men give various answers to the question? What was the hermit’s answer?
In reply to the first question, some learned men answered that the Tsar should draw up a table of days, months, and years in advance to know the right time for every action. Others suggested that he should always attend carefully to what was going on around him and take action according to the demand of the situation. Some others suggested that the Tsar should keep a council of wise men who would help him to fix the proper time for everything. Again, some others suggested that only magicians had the knowledge of the future, so the Tsar should consult with them. According to the hermit, the most important time was when The Tsar was busy digging the beds for the hermit, and afterwards he was attending to the wounded man who ran to them. So, there was only one time that was important — and that time was “now.”
2. What was the second question that came into the mind of the Tsar? How did the learned men give various answers to the question? What was the hermit’s answer?
In reply to the second question, some learned men answered that the people the Tsar most needed were his counsellors, because they would advise him properly for taking every action. Others suggested that the priests were the most necessary people, as they would help him by satisfying God with traditional rituals. Some others said that the doctors were the most necessary because they could keep him healthy, while others suggested that the warriors were the most necessary people because they would protect the country from the enemy.
According to the hermit, he was the most important person whom The Tsar listened to while the hermit was digging the beds in spite of his weakness. Afterwards, the most important person was the wounded man whom the Tsar nursed. So, the most important person was he with whom the Tsar was, because no man knew whether he would ever have dealings with anyone else.
3. What was the third question that came into the mind of the Tsar? What did the learned men give as various answers to the question? What was the hermit’s answer?
In reply to the third question, some learned men answered that the most important thing in the world was science, so he should follow scientific activities. Others suggested kill in Warfare So, he should make arrangements for the necessary infrastructure to develop the skill of the armies. Some others also suggested that he should obey the rules of God through spreading awareness among the people on the importance of religious worship.
According to the hermit, the most important work was to help him in digging beds for the tsar on that time. Afterwards, the most important work was to nurse the wounded man who was going to die from severe bleeding. So, the most important work was to do good, because for that purpose alone a man was sent into this earth.
4. Forgive me! said the bearded man”-To whom did the bearded man ask for forgiveness? Why did he ask for forgiveness?
5. How was the wounded man revived and nursed? Why did he ask forgiveness of the Tsar? What did the Tsar do when he had gained the man for a friend?
The bodyguard of the Tsar recognized the man as the Tsar’s enemy and wounded him severely. It was the Tsar who took utmost care of him to revive his life. He realized that he would have died if he was not looked after by the Tsar. This act of kindness changed the heart of the bearded man. He repented for his actions and asked for forgiveness.
The Tsar was very pleased to gain the man as a friend. He offered to send his servants and his own physician to attend to him. He also promised to give back his seized property.
